The goal of this beautiful assignment for us was not to create contemporary architecture from the torso of this iconic modern building, but to sensitively restore, materially complete, adapt to the times and functionally improve the already valuable existing work.

All the principles and elements of our design are based on this idea. The urban solution grows out of a simple modular arrangement of the original building. This network is then interwoven by roads, which, together with the terrain, offer a number of functional areas supporting the operation of the cinema, the background of the employees, as well as the leisure activities of the population.

The architecture itself is materially based on the original volume, which it complements both in the wreath around the hall and in the crown with added air conditioning. This frees up space for a simple one-story layout. As part of the process solution, the latter concentrates two large halls into a common foyer with a cloakroom and hygiene, while the café is newly opened to the public in the resulting piazzetta. The lounge turns together with the background of the actors to B. Němcové street, and a completely new wing is created on the north side for employees. It uses the originally desolate asphalt area as a private park for their offices and for a new social hall.

The materiality continues the architecture of the period in a new spirit. Marble, walnut veneer, plaster and concrete are preserved. However, they are now supplemented with locksmith details in a champagne shade of brass.
